The 54th Chicago International Film Festival wrapped up this weekend, and Reggie “The Reel Critic” Ponder brought back conversations with directors and cast from the festival.

Kathryn Hahn, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Kathryn Hahn may be best known for her roles in major films like WandaVision, Step Brothers and Bad Moms, but now the actress is making waves as she stars in Rian Johnson’s highly-anticipated Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Reggie Ponder spoke to Hahn about where the murder mystery all began: Clue!


Rev. Al Sharpton, Loudmouth

Loudmouth, directed by Josh Alexander, provides a glimpse into Rev. Al Sharpton’s life’s journey from an eight-year-old preacher to an iconic civil rights leader. Reggie Ponder talked with the spiritual and political leader about his activism against police brutality amongst his other work.


Darren Aronofsky, The Whale

From directing Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, Mother! and more, Darren Aronofsky has many esteemed films under his directorial belt. His latest title is The Whale (starring Brendan Fraser), based on Sumuel D. Hunter’s 2012 play of the same name. Reggie Ponder spoke with Aronofsky about the deeper, core meaning of his new film.


Mo McRae, A Lot of Nothing

Mo McRae is best known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, but the actor-turned filmmaker is now debuting his first feature film A Lot of Nothing. The drama thriller follows a couple as they take justice into their own hands when they believe their neighbor has committed a crime. Reggie Ponder chatted with the film’s first-time director at CIFF this past weekend.


Lila Neugebauer, Causeway

Lila Neugebauer is no stranger to the world of theater production. She’s been nominated for Tonys and acted alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, but Causeway (starring Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry) is her film directorial debut. Reggie Ponder and Neugebauer discussed her new film and its journey through trauma and coping.
