Weekend Gabe Revists “Above the Rim” Soundtrack for the 25th Anniversary

Written by on March 22, 2019

Vocalo’s Senior Hip Hop correspondent Gabe Mendoza returns to a classic this week: the soundtrack for “Above the Rim.”

It’s the 25th anniversery of the album, which contained two Top 10 hits by The Lady of Rage’s “Afro Puffs” and Warren G’s “Regulate” as well as three songs from the one and only 2 Pac.

The soundtrack moved more than 2 million units and was an overwhelming success.

The album won the best soundtrack award at the 1995 Source Awards where Suge Knight accepted the award. He famously dissed Diddy and Bad Boy in his speech, saying that “any artist out there that want to be an artist and stay a star, and don’t have to worry about the executive producer trying to be all in the videos, all on the record, dancing… come to Death Row!”
