Vocalo’s Top 10 Singles of 2022

Written by on January 2, 2023

Kickstart your New Year playlists with Team Vocalo’s 10 favorite singles released in 2022…

2022 gave us so much good music, it was hard to pick favorites — but here are 10 singles we especially loved that were released in the past year by artists you may recognize from our airwaves (listed here in chronologial order of their release)…

Saba, “Come My Way” (feat. Krayzie Bone)

Released Jan. 13, 2022

“Come My Way” is the third single released ahead of Saba’s acclaimed album Few Good Things — and Vocalo’s fourth most-played song of 2022. The track has a feature from Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs ‘n Harmony, which, Saba told Genius, was his goal from the beginning of the track’s creation. “Come My Way” — which Saba originally thought about calling “A Poverty Song” — is a melodic piece of creative writing, detailing Saba’s own experiences growing up on the West Side and the pursuit of success. It’s the ideal introduction to Few Good Things, and a song your music library needs.

Ravyn Lenae, “Skin Tight” (feat. Steve Lacy)

Released Feb. 1, 2022

I first listened to Ravyn Lenae with 2017’s “Spice,” and it’s safe to say she’s never disappointed  — except for making us wait so long for a debut full-length album! But I’ll admit, it was worth the wait. The first single released ahead of her album, “Skin Tight” is by far my favorite track on 2022’s HYPNOS, with a dynamic feature from Steve Lacy accenting her ethereal vocals. It was one of my most-played tracks of 2022, and should become one of your most-played of 2023…

Toro y Moi, “The Loop”

Released Feb. 22, 2022

This was Vocalo’s most-played song of 2022, and one of Toro y Moi’s most popular singles off of new album MAHAL prior to its release. This song is a slow-burn vibe, as seems to be Chaz Bear’s signature on the new album, with a killer guitar riff cruising through the end. It’ll get stuck in your head on “loop” (sorry, had to), as will the rest of MAHAL.

Chance the Rapper, “The Highs & The Lows” (feat. Joey Bada$$)

Released June 6, 2022

This is the Chance single we all needed this summer (and the one I had on repeat for months). It’s quintessential Chance: uplifting, catchy, rhyme-heavy and expanding my vocabulary. Turn this song on and take a deep breath, and embrace the highs and the lows of everyday life.

Babyface, “Keeps on Fallin’” (feat. Ella Mai)

Released June 17, 2022

Babyface is back like he never left with the hit single “Keeps On Fallin’,” featuring Ella Mai. The up-tempo song delivers powerful vocals by Ella Mai and masterful production by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and producer Babyface. Much like the chorus, listeners are bound to keep on falling in love with this track.

Beyoncé, “BREAK MY SOUL”

Released June 21, 2022

Just in time for Pride month, Beyonce dropped “BREAK MY SOUL” the lead single to the first act of her new dance album RENAISSANCE. Heavily borrowing from house music with uptempo beats and positive lyrics, this single is sure to get everyone up and grooving at any function.

Doechii, “Persuasive” (feat. SZA)

Released July 22, 2022

The beat of this song seems to flirt with the listener as it crescendos into a catchy chorus that really gets the crowd pumped. Just when Doechii proves she is a masterful performer and artist, she surprises listeners with a feature by SZA. This duo provides good vibes and a single that can be kept on repeat all night long.

KAYTRANADA & Anderson .Paak, “Twin Flame”

Released Aug. 2, 2022

KAYTRANADA has done it again! This time he teams up with the very soulful and energetic Anderson .Paak to give us the smooth funk hit “Twin Flame.” The fun can be felt in both the production and in .Paak’s lyrics, and the duo prove to be “twin flames” themselves as they grove out on the track.

Jamila Woods, “Boundaries”

Released Oct. 6, 2022

“Boundaries” has been on repeat for me since Jamila Woods released it. Her voice is one of my favorites, and this song just scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t even know I had. The introduction via Spanish guitar makes me wish I could dance, and the bass hits deep in my soul. Safe to say, I’m obsessed, and on the edge of my seat to see what else we’ll hear from her in the future…

NxWorries, “Where I Go” (feat. H.E.R.)

Released Oct. 19, 2022

I knew as soon as I saw NxWorries and H.E.R. collaborated on a song, this was going to be good. “Where I Go” is the first new release from NxWorries, a duo composed of Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge, since 2016’s Yes Lawd!, and they came back with a bang by teaming up with critically-acclaimed vocalist H.E.R. to make a grooving, low-key track about someone not trusting in their partner’s fidelity. NxWorries has already proved to be incredible on their own with tracks like “Suede” and “Lyk Dis” off the 2016 album, but throw in H.E.R. and you’ve got a track that listeners will have spinning for years to come. (At least, I will.)
