Peace Council Talks Gina Rodriguez Social Media Backlash and Chicago Teachers’ Strike

Peace Council October 17, 2019

Melissa DuPrey is an actress, comic, playwright, Emcee, musician and community organizer. Veronica Arreola is a professional feminist, writer, and a mom. She directs UIC’s Latinos in Science office, Las GANAS, and is the founder of the 50th Ward Action Network, a collective of politically-minded neighbors on Chicago’s far north side. They joined Jill Hopkins this week on Peace Council to talk about the Jane the Virgin star (and Chicagoan) Gina Rodriguez who found herself facing a social media backlash after she posted an Instagram story in which she used the n-word. This isn’t the first time the Puerto Rican actress has been in hot water for anti-black sentiments. Later, the two offered their thoughts on the teachers’ strike in Chicago.
