After releasing her newest album and collaborating with some beloved Chicago artists over the past few years, like Sen Morimoto, SABA and NNAMDÏ — plus some non-Chicago artists, like Helado Negro and Sleater-Kinney — KAINA landed on the Pitchfork Music Festival 2022 lineup. During her Sunday afternoon set, KAINA entranced everyone standing in the mud in front of the Green Stage with captivating melodies and vibrant splashes of color accompanying her pillowy vocals. The audience was treated with songs from her latest album It Was A Home and a few special hits from her 2019 debut Next To The Sun.
Before all of that, though, Vocalo afternoon’s host Nudia Hernandez sat down with KAINA to catch up and talk about her recent NPR Tiny Desk (home) concert, uplifting others in the Chicago music scene and finding inspiration during the pandemic.
