Good Allies Gone Bad

Vocalo Listener Lorrell has been thinking about what it means to be a "good ally:" how do you become part of the struggle, part of the fight, instead of just a sympathetic bystander? This morning she joined the AMp’s Molly Adams and guest co-host Luis Perez by phone as she helped answer those questions and more. One of the many important points that were made in the conversation were whether or not music artists Lady Gaga or Mackelmore, are true allies considering that they make a ton of money off of being a public voice for the gay rights movement. Profitting off of becoming a public ally for a movement certainly does raise questions on the genuinity of the advocacy and campaigning, and is not as effective of a tool as it may seem.

Terrence talks with Shantell about Oscar Parties and why there shouldn’t be any reason to watch The Oscars alone, in Chicago. There is specifically, an Oscar party at The Park West which tries to make you feel as if you were at The Oscars themselves, featuring table side bar service and champagne.
