One of the many important points that were made in the conversation were whether or not music artists Lady Gaga or Mackelmore, are true allies considering that they make a ton of money off of being a public voice for the gay rights movement. Profitting off of becoming a public ally for a movement certainly does raise questions on the genuinity of the advocacy and campaigning, and is not as effective of a tool as it may seem.
