Vocalo On WBEZ Ep. 89 - Shopping Aldi, Rico Sisney, Jesse De La Pena

In this episode: As we all know, shopping for quality food can take a lot out of your budget, especially if you’re trying to be heath conscious. But luckily there are some alternatives to the high priced chain stores. WBEZ’s Monica Eng recently discovered discount grocer Aldi. She joined the Vocalo hosts Brian Babylon and Molly Adams to talk about the joys of shopping in an unpredictable way for a lot less money.

Also: For years, Chicago MC Rico Sisney has been making soulful social commentary with his musical Hip Hop projects Sidewalk Chalk and more recently, Tree House. Now, the MC is trying his hand at a solo endeavor called Crying Wolves; one that sees his socio political commentary as piercing as ever.

We close the show with a mix from Vocalo DJ collective founder Jesse De La Pena. Tune in!

Vocalo On WBEZ Ep 87 - Atheism during holidays, DJ Limbs and Butter, Jesse De La Pena

In this episode: Our resident defender of justice Coya Paz is here to discuss the rise of Atheist visibility around the holidays, language bans in a country with no official language, and who we deem to be “fit” parents.

Also, DJ Limbs has been bringing eclectic and cutting edge sounds to clubs and parties around Chicago for quite some time. Aside from spinning records he’s also a talented producer. His most recent collaboration is with singer Ruth Varella aka Butter. The album features a mixture of downbeat, trip hop and electronica. The duo joined us for a live set and conversation.

Finally, we conclude the show with a DJ set - this time from our very own Jesse De La Pena. Tune in.
