The Flips on Live From Studio 10 (aired Jan 2014)

Chicago’s indie rock quintet The Flips are known for earnest songs that tackle themes of faith, religion and identity through contemplative self-reflection and at times, outright anger and frustration. The band’s latest album A Harm Deep But Shining epitomizes these inner struggles through melodic arrangements that spiral into bursts of distortion and feedback.

Live From Studio 10 airs Tuesdays at 8pm CST on Vocalo 90.7 FM (CHI) / 89.5 FM (NWI) and Vocalo.org, and features emerging local bands and music artists (with an occasional national act stopping by). Recently the band has combined collective efforts to record a new EP.

Pet Lions on Live From Studio 10 (aired Aug 2013)

Scott Lucas and The Married Men on Live From Studio 10

vocalomusicvox:

The band covers a diverse scope of sound ranging from melodic love songs to dark and heavy tunes with sinister harmonies. The Orwells on Live From Studio 10 (aired May 2013)

vocalomusicvox:

In just under two years, The Orwells have released an official full-length and an EP, with yet another full-length on its way. With shredding garage blues guitars and thumping drums the band has burst out of basement shows and into rock clubs throughout Chicago and beyond, and now the big stage at Lollapalooza awaits them. Not too bad for a bunch of 18 year olds out of Elmhurst, IL?!

Train Company on Live From Studio 10 (aired May 2013)

vocalomusicvox:

After the first listen of their full-length The Remains of An Effort, it’s clear that Train Company is more than a blues band. The group crafts a diverse multi-layered sound with discernible traces of jazz, pop and even orchestral arrangements, all while effortlessly switching between anthemic rock vocals and airy indie rock introspection.

The Sweeps on Live From Studio 10 (aired March 2013)

vocalomusicvox:

Drawing their influences from Motown sound, classic rock and, of course, this very city, pop rock trio The Sweeps have a penchant for hard pounding, yet melodic and lyrical songwriting reflective of Chicago’s history, people and places. Their new album “Swift Armour” is filled with fuzz-ridden guitar riffs, belting vocals, and raw energy.
