Vocalo On WBEZ Ep. 104 - CPS lunches, The J. Davis Trio, DJ Charlie
In this episode: Have you ever wondered what Chicagp Public School lunches are made of? Well, if you would ask CPS, they would tell you that the chicken nuggets are made of chicken. At least that’s what CPS disclosed when WBEZ reporter Monica Eng filed the Freedom of Information Act to find what CPS is serving its students. She wasn’t satisfied with the answer and pressed the issue.
Also, The J. Davis Trio authentically combine their love of traditional Jazz with their passion for Hip Hop. The result is an exhibition of smooth lyricism and groove heavy soulful instrumentals. They stopped by the studio with a large 7-piece ensemble for a live performance and conversation with Jesse Menendez.
We close the show as usual with some thumping beats. This time, courtesy of DJ Charlie. Tune in!
Vocalo On WBEZ Ep. 103 - Diversity in Network TV Comedy, Archie Powell, The Narcoleptic
In this episode: When Stephen Colbert was announced as Dave Letterman’s replacement on CBS’s late night talk show offering, even fans of the show felt that it was time for networks to think outside the box for a host. Jamie Masada, owner of The Laugh Factory, shared his thoughts with hosts Molly Adams and Brian Babylon about diversity on the networks, from gender to race to education to region.
Also, Chicago’s Archie Powell and The Exports deliver a downpour of raucous rock at their live shows and on their recordings. The new album Back In Black is filled to capacity with driving guitar riffs and inexhaustible energy. The band stopped by our performance studio to play some new tracks and talk about the album.
We close the show with a House set from Chicago’s The Narcoleptic. Tune in!
