Vocalo on WBEZ Ep 92 - Chicago Drill Scene, Expunging Juvy Records, North by North

In this episode: In a new documentary series called Chiraq, Vice’s music site Noisey, gives us a glimpse of Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood and its burgeoning and sometimes violent drill scene. The documentary also explores the social and cultural challenges facing the community. Chiraq host Thomas Morton spoke with MusicVox host Jesse Menendez and Kristian Eliz about the documentary.

Also: Even without any arrests before you turn 18, juvenile records can affect future employment, and access to housing and education. But with a little time, money, and know how, juvenile records can be expunged in Illinois. Mikva Challenge’s Juvenile Justice Council has developed a web-based app to walk people through the process and Chris Rudd, Director of the JJC talks with Molly and Brian on The MorningAMp about how they hope to expand its reach.

Also Also: Chicago’s gritty blues rock trio North by North have done something very ambitious with their debut LP- they made it an 18 track double album, and believe it or not, every track sounds as catchy and energetic and the other. You’ll find no fillers here. The band joined Jesse Menendez in our performance studio for a live set and conversation about the new album Something Wicked.

Last but not least: DJ Daz brings it home with a bomb of a live mix!! Tune in!
