Marsha Ambrosius, formerly of the Soul Group, Floetry is out of Philadelphia has since gone solo and released 2011’s Late Night & Early Mornings. Friends & Lovers (2014) is her 2nd solo album featuring Dr. Dre & Charlie Wilson. She was signed to Aftermath during the Mid 2000’s and worked on music from Dr. Dre, The Game, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes. This explains the random Dr. Dre feature.

This week, our Senior Hip Hop Correspondent Gabe Mendoza shared his thoughts on her latest album and discussed how he doesn’t believe in the R & B genre. He also touched base on how the merger of hip hop and soul music has created dope artists like Marsha Ambrosius but also created weak singers rocking over rap beats.

Gabe also shared his Critic for a Minute on his excitement for this year’s Chicago Bulls following a week of trades and decisions in the NBA.

Vocalo On WBEZ Ep. 106 - USS Indianapolis survivor Edgar Harrell, Grieves, DJ Bizzon

In this episode: As the 75th anniversary of the beginning of WWII approaches, Memorial Day has an extra layer of emotion for veterans. Edgar Harrell was one of the few survivors of the USS Indianapolis sinking, torpedoed by Japan in the Pacific Theater just a week before the US bombed Hiroshima. Molly and Brian spoke with him about his story and why, as insulated as we are from the conflict, it is important to remember what life is like during war time.
