[Album] Slot-A - The Transition

vocalomusicvox:

image

Super dope producer and emcee Slot-A recently released his debut album The Transition. A 10 track collection of authentic hip hop sounds parallel to those fans of Madlib and Dilla. The Transition features guests Neak, Add-2, Sincerely Yours and more. It’s a really great listen especially for those looking for something that’s polar opposite of what’s getting air play on commercial radio. We’ll be talking about the album tonight on Vocalo’s Music Vox program!

JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound on Live From Studio 10 (aired Nov. 2012)

vocalomusicvox:

When it comes to big hair, irresistible grooves and heart-wrenching soul, it’s undeniably Chicago’s very own JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound who come to mind. They have this town on the move with their signature high energy post-punk soul sound. The band embraces some of the great soul traditions of the past but they also infuse their sound with punk rock ethos, seamlessly shifting from smooth ballads to gritty, hard-edged RnB and covering everything in between.

Live From Studio 10 airs every Wednesday at 8pm CST on Vocalo 89.5 FM and Vocalo.org, and features emerging local bands and music artists (with the occasional national act stopping by). No other station brings you this much local music, and no other show in the region does it live. Hosted by Jesse Menendez, produced by Fyodor Sakhnovski and engineered by Adam Yoffe. Reclaimed Soul Episode 026: Dedicated to Terry Callier.

vocaloreclaimedsoul:

We lost Chicago’s own Terry Callier on October 27th. He was an singer/songwriter who melded Soul, Folk, and Jazz seamlessly. This is Reclaimed Soul Host Ayana Contreras’ tribute along with a rare Terry Callier interview, and some of his music.

The Run Around

vocalomusicvox:

From a basement in Normal, IL to stages like the Metro and The Congress Theater to Milwaukee’s Summerfest, The Run Around has proved that alternative rock is here to stay. In fact the band’s new EP, Welcome To the Circus, is full of anthemic choruses, big guitars and a bit of politicking. The Run Around will joins Jesse Menendez in studio to talk about the release.

Employing a variety of sonic temperaments, Chicago’s Volcanoes Make Islands construct a dichotomy of sounds. Their new album Museum of Endangered Sounds is a follow up to 2010 EP Sick City. The band joins Jesse Menendez about the new album and why they consider their songs endangered.

Kelroy on Live From Studio 10 (aired Nov. 2012)

vocalomusicvox:

Chicago’s Kelroy is colored with hints of post rock, blues and alternative. Their songs pull all of their influences together in the form of evolving chord progressions and often abstract lyrics.

The Pear Traps on Live From Studio 10 (aired Nov. 2012)

vocalomusicvox:

The Pear Traps have been steadily refining their lo-fi folk pop sound. Having progressed from “Basement Fidelity” to “cabin fidelity” on their last two EP’s, they took a leap forward with the new record “Elsewhere,” and once again recorded it, yes, elsewhere – in a recording studio. Although the band was still adamant about preserving their brand of lo-fi sound of mellow lilting melodies, soft drums and airy vocals that has earned them a comparison of “Joy Division gone Americana.”

Perfect Kiss on Live From Studio 10 (aired Oct. 2012)

vocalomusicvox:

Chicago’s Perfect Kiss tear up Studio 10 with a killer live set filled with dance songs about love and partyiiing!!

Having started out of the necessity to party, the Pilsen-based synth pop group Perfect Kiss have been moving the underground dance floors for some years and releasing rough homemade mixes of their songs. This year, the band decided to take things more seriously, and booked time in a professional studio. The result is their debut release Alarms EP - a collection of irresistibly danceable pop songs.
