The Rundown
Does that picture look familiar? Chances are, you've seen it before, but with Sarah Palin's head pasted on it. Just one example of the internet hoaxes we'll be discussing tonight.
Here's a few ideas we're kicking around for this broadcast. Please add your own to the list!
- How to tell if an email is a hoax (the photo of Big Foot, for starters...)
- RickRolling
- The election is blurring the lines between hoax and spin. Factcheck.org keeps a running tab on what's what in the campaign ads, debates, and those mass emails that keep clogging up your inbox.
- Sarah Palin's son Trig is actually her grandson -- this rumor generated so much controversy that one of the originators, the Daily Kos has removed the original story, but they do have a concluding link. Palin has sparked quite a few: there's the fake bikini picture, and her list of books to ban, several of which were published after she supposedly made the request.
- Speaking of naughty pictures, here's a personal spin on the internet hoax-- revenge porn. remember Bonsai Kitten?
