The Rundown

We have stormchasers, you know those wacky people who know enough about weather to run towards a storm instead of away from one, will be on to tell their most exciting tales.

Then we'll have renowned Region actor, Jeff Schmidt, star of the new, one-man musical comedy 'Sparkle!' (playing at Beatniks on Conkey in Hammond June 20th thru the 22nd) on to talk about the show and life as an actor from the Region.

Finally at 1p, Artistic Director of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, Orbert Davis, will be on to play and chat about their upcoming concert, “Chicago Jazz Philharmonic: Hope in Action”  that will take stage on July 21, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park in Chicago, in collaboration  with honorary co-chairs Mrs. Maggie Daley and the South African Consul General in Chicago, Pearl Nomvume Magaqa.

The concert is free to the public and will be emceed by Chicago’s own Bill Kurtis. The concert is part of Chicago's plans to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday and embrace his message of freedom and equality.

Orbert Davis, well-honored jazz trumpeter, composer and artistic director of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (CJP) has composed a piece exclusively for this grand celebration, inspired by Nelson Mandela.  The creation weaves jazz, classical and South African melodies inspired by Mandela’s universal message of peace and unification.  The musical suite will feature special guest performances by Zim Ngqwana, Ari Brown, Dee Alexander and T’keyah Crystal Keymah.  This presentation is part one of a concert series titled “HUMANITY”, a collection of free concerts from CJP.
