The Rundown

Hour 2 - If you haven't already checked out new Vocalero Phoning It In, you should. Phoning It In, hosted in Boston and Providence by "DJ Talksonthephone," is a deceptively simple radio show where bands play live sets over the telephone. The result is often quirky, sometimes haunting, but always interesting. The show has featured well known singer-songwriters like Devendra Banhart, Jens Lekman, and The Mountain Goats, as well as lesser known lo-fi and indie acts still underground. In the last few years, they've recorded almost 300 shows!

We're psyched to have Below Average Dave helping us inaugurate the :Vocalo.org edition of Phoning It In! He'll call in live from Tampa, play some of his wonderfully ridiculous parodies, and curate a smattering of other comedy tracks made by friends and fellow Vocaleros. (More on B.A.D. here.)

We'll also play a selection of tracks from the Phoning It In archive, as uploaded to Vocalo.org.

HOUR 4 - It's more live, music, only this time it's live live! Hip-hoppers Nam1Sekatti and Phelon will grace us with an in-studio performance, as well as some intense conversation. When I asked Nam (as he likes to be called) what he'd like to talk about on the air, he threw back this idea:

"We could argue about whether poor people are pushed into crime or if there is a moral choice. Whether to blame the victim or the oppressor type premise, knaw mean?" As well as:"Do people in poor communities resort to crime? Educational differences in a poor community vs. the 'burbs and privileged areas, other options to get out of the ghetto," and, "trap ideology."

Ok then! Let's jump right in.
