Oh yeah.  Big time.

That's according to playwright/performers Michael Fosberg and Rohina Malik, and director Ann Filmer, in conversation with Luis.

Is Racism Back

(Rohina and Michael have plays in the new season at 16th Street Theater, where Ann is the artistic director.  Luis talked with the three of them about their plays "Unveiled" and "Incognito.")

First I'm glad that there is even a conversation on this topic. Dialouge is the first step in anything. I however find fault with stating that racism is back when it never left. It may have been more undercover the past years but again it's rearing it's ugly head especially with the running and election of a man of color running the country. Racist views start with your first day in kindergarden and continue from there. Learning of any other culture other than european is rare and later becomes an elective. Why do people have to choose if they want to learn of anything other than european (which is mandatory)? I agree that words hold power and accountability should be taken with them but I did find issue with the fact that people of color were described as "pouncing" on anything that a person of non color said. I think many things are said without thought of views from others. People of color are not touted as the norm for beauty or intelligence in fact the opposite. If you are constanly bombarded with you are not what's wanted wouldn't you take issue with the smallest slight?
