De'Ajaha, Ja'Kahla, and Ty'Juan lived with their grandma, but grandma was sick.  Their auntie Erica moved in to help out, but then grandma got worse fast and died.  Auntie Erica became the kids' legal guardian... and the management company promptly sent her an eviction notice.

She and the kids were about to be kicked out of their Rogers Park apartment. Technically, the management company may have been within their rights, but they had plenty of other options.  And the management company was being paid by... wait for it... the government!

Folks mobilized to try to keep the family from getting evicted, and journalist Megan Cottrell blogged about it-- which is how we heard about the story.  And eventually-- like, after more than a year-- the management company backed off.  Erica joined Megan in the studio with Tom.
