I've been listening to the debate between pieces about the seperation of church and state, and one thing that is abundantly clear: Your guest doesn't seem to understand what it is. She says, "If you want to seperate it, seperate it. If you don't, don't."
To your guest: If the seperation of church and state were abolished, there could be, and most likely would be, officially sanctioned churches. I don't know what church you go to, but would you be pleased if suddenly the Lutheran Church or the Southern Baptist Church were the only officially government sanctioned religion? And if the beliefs of the officially recognized religion were forced upon your church?
It's clear to me that you don't understand that the seperation of church and state was put in place to protect freedom of religion - as well as freedom from religion. For this reason, I feel people like Rep. Monique Davis, who would just as soon officially sanction and promote one church over another, should either resign - or be removed from office.
