I'm a sociologist ... associate professor at DePaul University in Chicago and director of DePaul's Social Science Research Center. Mostly I'm a professional street urchin -- I use film and audio to create documentary stories about the more marginalized people and places in the world we all share, the world we subdivide into the acceptable and unacceptable. Well, I live in and try to document faithfully and respectfully the unacceptable. I'm a contributor to Chicago Public Radio ... last year I created the series "The Brickyard" (Eight Forty-Eight), and this year I hope to do more work for them and for Vocalo ... my next series for WBEZ will focus, in three parts, on heroin in the suburbs.
