What: Lindsey Bauer and Kevin Adank of Tulsa, Oklahoma, are the winners of a free wedding from Vocalo.org and will be married on Chicago’s Navy Pier this Thursday, June 25.
Lindsey and Kevin's prize includes cake from Tonya's Patisserie, hair and makeup for the bride by Brandi Anderson of Bella' Amore Weddings, and a $1,000 gift certificate from Albert's Jewelry. The prize also includes music by Vocalo.org’s house band, a minister, flowers, champagne, their marriage license, a Vocalo.org host-producer as master of ceremonies and a prime locale on Chicago’s biggest tourist attraction - Navy Pier - with a potential audience of millions worldwide to listen in on the special day.
During June, Lindsey and Kevin and fourteen other couples threw their bouquets in the Vocalo.org ring for a chance to win a free, on-air wedding. To enter the contest, couples retold their best stories of love and courtship (see “Who” for Lindsey and Kevin’s story).
Why: Lindsey and Kevin’s story won because it was judged by an illustrious panel to have taken the most exciting twists and turns and tugged with the most force on the heartstrings, all with storytelling style.
Who: When Lindsey met Kevin, she said to herself, "I'm gonna marry that guy someday." She was 11, and he had just helped fix her bike. They started dating when in their twenties, and their story takes a bittersweet turn as marriage entered the picture.
Kevin asked Lindsey's dad - whom she describes as her best friend - for permission to marry her two years ago. A year later - before Kevin had actually proposed to Lindsey - her dad died in a motorcycle crash. She says they're still devastated by the loss. Says Lindsey, "It's been extremely hard for me to plan a wedding knowing that he won't be there with me."
Which, Lindsey says, is why winning Vocalo.org's contest is such a perfect opportunity - allowing them to stage a memorable wedding without having to engage in a long planning process haunted by the absence of Lindsey's father.
