Right glue for the right job.

Each glue has its strong points and weak points.  Select the right glue for the job can depend on what you are gluing.

Projects

For paper and little projects I use Elemers glue. I find that kids project will work well with glue sticks.  They can use them without the glue eating experience.

Home

For home repairs I stick with a product called Gorilla Glue.  This for me works the best.  From broken handles to putting pieces back together nothing i have tried sticks better.

Construction

When building and you need a third or forth hand you can use construction glue. This is glue that is place on wood and boards to hold items in place before they nailed or screwed.  I like a product called Liquid Nails. This holds like liquid nails and items stay where you put them.  This is applied with the use of caulk gun.

How to make glue work better.

In a few steps you can improve the job.  First is the prep the area, then put the right glue on. Next put a clamp on the job to make sure it has time to dry.

Prep area

Clean the area as best as you can.  If it is a smooth surface I would take something to make small scratches like sandpaper give the glue an area to hold on.

Right Glue

Pick the correct glue for the job.  If glueing wood use wood glue. If working with paper use a glue like Elmers.  Follow the instructions stated by the manufacturer.

Clamp

I sometimes have to use creative ways to help hold a glue site.  I have use rubber bands and clamps to books and broom handles to make the glue stick. It is dependent on the job to how things are held when glueing thing together. All you have to remember is that it need to be able to hold on the same spot without moving.

Safety

Working safe with glue make what you glue stick together and does not leave you stuck.  When working on small items and super glue to get a strong hold. I always use latex gloves.  This keeps the glue from getting on the skin.  For use use of a heavy glue job in construction I would use work gloves so not to get on my hands or tools.  The best idea is to have wet paper towels to clean any mess you make when use any glue. This will keep the glue area smooth and clean.

Lets get the glue job stuck on you.

McFixit's House Green Cleaning

This week McFixit is cleaning the house GREEN, listen for lots of cleaning tricks for floors, carpets, furniture and drapes that need no chemicals...plus, how to keep your kitchen sink draining smoothly...

Material

Baking Soda

Vinegar

Lemons

Club Soda

Newspaper

Old cloth diapers

Drain cleaner

Taking baking soda  and pour into slow flowing drain and the pour a little vinegar then run as hot as possible water in drain.  This is the volcano plumber of drain cleaners.

Window cleaner

Club soda in a spray bottle with a little lemon juice will have your windows shine.  Spray on window and use old newspaper to clean the windows.

Steam cleaner

I have use  a steamer to clean and refresh drapes, couches, and other hard to clean surfaces.   This uses the power of steam to kill germs and bacteria.  This breaks up dirt and grease.  Destroys mold and mildew.  It will do this without any chemicals.  The cost of steamers have gone down in the last few years.
