Vocalo.org is like YouTube for Radio. We take stuff made by regular citizens, amateur radio geeks and professional journalists or artists and put it on the radio. We depend on energetic and talented volunteers to help us make this happen. We’re looking for beginners, serious students and experienced professionals who can commit to regular weekly hours to help out. In return, we provide training in audio production, story-telling for radio, and help you with your own projects.
The way to start volunteering at Vocalo is to attend an Orientation Session at either 6pm Wednesday, 2pm Friday, or 10am Saturday. Those considering volunteering for Vocalo.org should email us at info@vocalo.org or call 312-893-2935 and let us know which session you're planning to come to.
When you arrive at WBEZ studios 848 E. Grand at Navy Pier, ring the bell and we’ll buzz you in. We’ll go over details about how Vocalo works and screen aspiring volunteers to determine good matches.

Neighborhood leaders and community development practitioners from Chicago and around the country will come together for a two-day work session on March 26 and 27 to share how they improve the places they live and work.
The conference, Getting It Done: New Tools for Communities, will be hosted by 16 Chicago neighborhoods that have planned, launched and executed the nation's largest demonstration in comprehensive community development, the New Communities Program (NCP).
The gathering will bring together hundreds of street-level experts in everything from youth programming and safety to retail development and health care. Chicago practitioners will be joined by counterparts from other cities around the nation that are launching similar comprehensive community development programs.
"We're hoping for some international participants, too," said Susana Vasquez, NCP Director for the Chicago office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the primary sponsor of the March conference. "We've had visitors from across the U.S. and all over the world and this is a great opportunity for them to learn more about the inspiring work underway in Chicago neighborhoods."
The conference will provide workshops, discussions and neighborhood tours to help participants learn what works and how other practitioners tackle common challenges. It will be held at the new UIC Forum building , near downtown Chicago. Full conference schedule here.
